According to rumors, Microsoft will unveil its Windows Mobile 7 at a wireless industry conference that will be held in Barcelona next week. The new operating system is awaited by so many customers.
They say that the Windows Mobile 7 platform will come with an interface that is based mostly on the Zune HD that got success. Others consider that Microsoft will provide the platform that is based on social networking and will be targeted at a teen audience.
Microsoft created an interim mobile platform known as Windows Mobile 6.5 that was available with additional improvements but if compare with platforms such as Android and iPhone, Windows Mobile does not show any progress.
But still one should not forget that Microsoft takes the third place in terms of smartphone platforms. It follows RIM and Apple as well, but at the same time Palm and Google is behind Microsoft.
Despite the fact that Microsoft struggled with its mobile operating system, it has a dominant position of the server operating system, business productivity software, desktop operating system, messaging and also Web browsing markets.
The major appeal of a Microsoft mobile operating system is the integration of native tools that are embedded with the existing server, office productivity environment and desktop as well.

I think what’s new about Windows Mobile 7 is that it will be a closed platform, and Microsoft will decide which apps will be on the platform, and which won’t. That’s a real departure from the current Windows Mobile.
