Ruling favoring Jailbreaking saddens Apple

The Library of Congress’s Copyright Office has ruled that users can legally jailbreak their phones – particularly Apple’s iPhone. This ruling has particularly been revolutionary for Electronic Frontier Foundation and hackers everywhere and is considered as a victory for them. The government said that Jailbreaking is “innocuous at worst and beneficial at best.”

Apple said in a statement responded, “Apple’s goal has always been to insure that our customers have a great experience with their iPhone and we know that jailbreaking can severely degrade the experience. As we’ve said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones as this can violate the warranty and can cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably.”

The company said that Jailbreaking exposes the phone to malicious attacks the company says, “It is also important to note that unauthorized modification of the iOS is a violation of the iPhone end-user license agreement. Because of this, Apple may deny service for an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has installed any unauthorized software.” The Copyright Office ruling is part of a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).

Apple to sell iPad in Ireland from Friday

Apple will start selling its iPad in the Republic of Ireland from this Friday. The prices start at €500 for the basic model that has a 16GB of storage. The price of deluxe 64GB model is tagged at €800. This model has a built-in 3G for internet on the move. These prices are similar to the UK and rest of Europe.

Global release of the iPads was delayed by Apple and now it is being introduced in many countries. Apart from Ireland, the device will be released soon in Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Luxemburg, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore and Netherlands.

Apple Store will sell the iPad through online and a handful of retailers. The iPad will not be available in phone stores but the mobile operators will sell the special micro-SIMs that is needed for internet service. Tariff rates for these SIMs will be announced soon in the coming days. The Irish stores will get the iPhone 4 on July 30, according to the new reports. The phone is in the mid of controversy regarding its antenna problems.

Is Apple hiding anything? Customers continue to ask questions concerning the most crucial topic nowadays: what’s going on with iPhone 4? The company seems to be satisfied with their behaviour and the current situation as it is sure that faithful buyers will keep on purchasing the iPhone 4 in droves.

It is known that the new model of Apple’s smartphone is blamed for unexpected signal drops and poor connectivity. It happens all the time when fingers are placed over one of the phone’s corners. As Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, recommended, the device should be held in a particular way in order to avoid the abovementioned problems. Then, the company stated that the problem was not in the phone itself but in its bad 3G signal display algorithm.

However, in the users’ view reflected in Consumer Reports, Apple has introduced a defective or flawed device that should definitely be recalled for replacement or repair.

Though Consumer Reports note that, the iPhone is the best smartphone in the market, in every other respect, it is clear: if a smartphone is not able to connect reliably to the cellular network – it is a complete failure.
It is predicted by experts that because of its arrogance, Apple may be defeated in the market and may never recover.

Apple, Microsoft and other majors face email latigation

Virginia based Technology Company NTP has announced that it has filed lawsuits against Apple, Google, HTC, LG, Microsoft and Motorola over patents rights regarding the use of email delivery over wireless networks. The company has said that the law suits are filed in the US District Court of the Eastern District of Virginia on Friday.

Co-found of NTP, Donald Stout has said, “Use of NTP’s intellectual property without a license is just plain unfair to NTP and its licensees. Unfortunately, litigation is our only means of ensuring…NTP shareholders are recognized and are fairly and reasonably compensated for their innovative work and investment,” The company has announced that it had sued Research in Motion successfully in the past also.

The company said it achieved major success in December 2009, when the US Patent and Trademark Office Board of Patent Appeals ruled in favor of the company that its 67 patents claims were valid and or them, RIM was found infringing on three patents. The judgment was on the NTP’s claims that its patent claims were violated.

Apple plans cheaper TV episodes downloads

Apple is planning to let consumers have access to even cheaper digital downloading of TV episodes on iTunes and sources. Currently, the price of downloading is $1.99 and Apple wants to ensure way lower prices of 99 cents for its consumers.

As far as the price structures of TV shows downloads are concerned, most of them cost around $2 per episode while downloading of movies costs $15 to $20. The movie rentals cost around $3. This means that option of watching a movie for once is there for the consumers at cheaper costs.

Apple now goes back to the drawing board with its Apple TV that did not clicked much with the consumers due to its higher costs for them. But the company is now redesigning it and is working with the content providers in order to offer TV show rentals. Such rentals are aimed at providing the customers with a rented title for 24 hours at only 99 cents each. With the progress of time, now more and more consumers are looking for the content on their TV instead of their computer. However, not much details are available at this time on the new Apple TV service, though it is sure that the company has learnt from its mistakes.

Apple to open store in Shanghai

Apple Inc is now planning to open a store in Shanghai, after it entered the Chinese market two years ago. The company on Thursday gave a preview of the store to the reporters and is clear that the store is in high profile location.

Apple plans to open 25 stores in China in next two years, though the company has not yet revealed the names of the sites. About the Shangai store, reports are that Apple has installed a cylindrical glass of 40 foot that is similar to glass box outside of Fifth Avenue store in New York.

The company had entered the Chinese market in 2008 with a single store in Beijing, before summer Olympic Games. According to an analyst Richard Doherty, ‘’ Chine is the largest PC market in the world. Apple has said that it would continue its association with China Unicom, which is the second largest telecommunication company of China. Underground sales of phones are heavy in China, and this may be a damaging factor to the company’s phone market share in the country.

Apple Opens Access to Beta Version of MobileMe Calendar

Apple posted a beta version of its MobileMe calendar on me.com on Wednesday morning.

Several new improvements have been introduced. They include: easier scanning of events thanks to a new list view, redesigned views of days, weeks, and months, faster loading. According to Apple, this application will work better with Firefox 3.6, Safari 5, and Internet Explorer 8.

MobileMe calendar will enable its users to share and publish their calendars, send invitations with RSVP and use this application on mobile and desktop devices.

If you wish to try this beta version of MobileMe calendar, you should visit me.com/calendar, press the Request button which you can find in the lower corner on the left. When you are added to the beta, you’ll be sent an e-mail notification.

Moreover, a read-only public calendar can be created and then shared by all the users of this beta application. After the calendar is complete, all you need to let your friends and colleagues to know about some events is to send out a link to their PC, Mac, iPod touch, iPad, or iPhone.

What concerns system requirements, they are the following: running , iOS 3.2 on iPad, iOS 4 on iPod touch or iPhone, or Mac OS X 10.6.4.

Apple apologizes, but blames software for signal loss

Apple has apologized to the customers for loss of signal on its iPhone 4. But the company has blamed the software for the snag. In a ‘letter from Apple regarding iPhone 4’, the company said that the phone’s software is totally wrong for showing the signal of AT&T wireless signals.

The complaints regarding the loss of signals were raised by numbers of users of the phone and the problem occurred especially for the left handed users. The new iPhone 4 smartphone has the tendency, according to the users, to block the signals when it is held in left palm. Apple’s letter to the customer said, “Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength.”

Apple said that it will ship software to the customers for the iPhone 4 as well as for its earlier versions of 3G and 3GS. The company has claimed that the software will restore the correct signals within a few weeks. But a detailed radio-frequency analysis has revealed that iPhone 4’s design has caused the loss of signal.

Apple files suits against HTC over patent violations

Apple has expanded its suit against HTC after accusing it of violating 20 of its iPhone patents. Apple has accused the Taiwanese handset maker of using its technology for which it has the patent. The suit has been filed in US District Court in Detaware.
The company says that the newly added patents use the same technology which it has been using as a “system for real-time adaptation to changes in display configuration.”
Before filing these new tow suits, the company has also filed suits of similar nature against HTC. In its original suit, that later it expanded, Apple has accused the HTC that it has infringed on patents that are related to the phone’s graphical user interface. The phone’s underline hardware and software design also has been copied. Apple has overall claimed that HTC has violated its five of the patents. .

Apple WWDC 2010 today @ San Francisco

Apple Annual Developer Conference @ San Francisco.

Apple Inc. will open the annual conference of software developers on June 7, 2010 in San Francisco.It is expected that the event will be submitted to the next generation iPhone, but will also have the sessions devoted to developing applications for the tablet iPad, presented by Steve Jobs in January 2010. Also at the conference attention will be paid to iPhone OS 4.0, announced in early April. In the last two WWDC in 2009 and in 2008 Apple introduced the iPhone 3GS and 3G, respectively. It is expected that this year, Apple will show a new version of OS Mac OS X.

In addition, the Apple WWDC 2010 will be presented with awards : Apple Design Awards, top five applications for the iPhone and iPad. At the same time the winners are selected from among the applications available in the store App Store.

In total, the conference will be held more than 100 sessions and workshops for developers.

According to Apple, the event will be attended by over 5000 visitors. In the days of the conference in the Moscone West exhibition center will work more than a thousand engineers, who will advise developers on creating applications for Mac OS X and iPhone OS.
