The Droid X continues to be in big demand as it is now in shortage in the stores and its supply to the store is unlikely to be until Aug. 4. The Droid X was sold out in Verizon outlets in Boston, San Francisco and Austin through the first weekend of its sale, according to the new reports available about the smartphone.

An analyst Mark McKechnie said calls to Verizon stores last week shows that the Droid X is still in scarce supply. This Android 2.1-based smartphone was available from July 15 and was in strong demand for the first day. Verizon’s retail stores do not have any units left.McKechnie said “Our checks suggest virtually no Droid X phones [are] available in Verizon retail outlets through Sunday, July 25, with limited ‘restock’ shipments since the original channel fill,”

Verizon’s Website says that the shipment date for the phone is Aug. 4 but this date has been advanced frequently. The Droid X is the latest in a series of multimedia-oriented smartphones. The phone features a 4.3-inch screen, 720p video capture and HDMI output. The device has a decent battery considering the large screen. The users will get an upgrade to the Android 2.2 platform in August.
