It became known that Microsoft is going to release an online store with the help of which customers will be able to buy as well as download applications for the upcoming Windows Phone 7 Series mobile device platform.
The plans of Microsoft were revealed on Monday at its MIX10 developer conference that was in Las Vegas. But still no details were disclosed concerning time and pricing. But previously the company promised that Windows Phone 7 devices would be available in the market during holiday season of 2010.
It seems like the company has several reasons to draw its attention towards the downloadable applications market. In fact Apple has more than 100 million downloads from its store. Moreover, according to the estimation of Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster iPhone and iPod downloads will increase and each year the company will be able to get about $1 billion.
In order to have more users for Windows Phone 7 applications, Microsoft offers tools such as Silverlight multimedia format and XNA games language.
Applications as well as games for Windows Phone 7 will leverage integrated support for microphones, cameras, location-based services, hardware-aided video, accelerometers and others.
Windows Phone 7 was launched last month at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona. It comes with a start screen and it provides always-on access to Xbox games, e-mail, Bing search, as well as other tools.
