It is unclear how Google will overcome challenges offering Nexus One to ordinary folks but it won’t be better when it comes to endorsement from the tech-savvy realm.

Linus Torvalds, leader of the Linux kernel programming project, expressed his opinion concerning the Google phone, saying that he really liked this very model as it converted him into a mobile phone believer.

Torvalds said that he did not like cell phones in general as they disturb people when they are doing something or working, but as for the Nexus One, it is considered to be the winner. He was really excited by the feature that is integrated into the handset, i.e. GPS that is very helpful especially when you are driving and need to know the right direction.

The Nexus one is based on Google’s Android but Linux is built atop. Moreover, usually the applications don’t run on the Linux. Instead they are able to run on Java-like layer and Google’s Dalvik virtual machine

Not so long ago Google launched a Native Development Kit created specially for software that runs directly on the phone’s Linux operating system. Mozilla is developing a version of Firefox for Android with the help of such technology.

As for Android, it is a bit unusual platform users, because it has Java core, but with the help of the NDK it is possible to combine things and it won’t affect a lot of problems.
