Facebook ensures user permission through app

Facebook has forced the developers to be transparent when collecting information from the members. The social networking site on Wednesday has launched a new system for application to address the transparency issue on the site.

The new system for app implies that now if a user chooses to add and app to his or her profile, there will be a permission screen telling the user about the type of information it is going to collect. Thus, the developers can no longer rest on excuse to have access to the public information. Now the app must ask for permission of the user for the information sharing.

Facebook’s chief technology officer Bret Taylor says, “In order for these applications and Web sites to provide social and customized experiences, they need to know a little bit about you. We understand, however, that it’s important you also have control over what you’re sharing. With this new authorization process, when you log into an application with your Facebook account, the application will only be able to access the public parts of your profile by default. To access the private parts of your profile, the application has to explicitly ask for your permission.” The new system is in keeping with the privacy policy changes of Facebook.
