Google Inc. together with a group of authors and publishers insisted on acceptance of a $125 million settlement by a federal judge as it will help create digital book library.

But still there are companies among which one can observe Microsoft Corp., Amazon.com Inc., AT&T Inc. and also the nations of France and Germany that are against this settlement. They consider that Google will get unfair control over digitized works. Moreover, there is a possibility that some author groups will loose the control of their copyrights.

In 2005 authors and publishers proceeded against Google, they insisted on infringement of their copyrights through digitizing their books as well as letting part of their works to be observed online. As a result there was an agreement according to which a Book Rights Registry has to make compensation to copyright holders and offer public access to several books via Google.

The publishers and Google made amendments in the settlement in order to address complaints, changing how it copes with works whose owners are still unknown at the moment.

The settlementt also involves the question concerning the control of digital rights which has led to the battle between big companies over the market for electronic books and search-engine advertising.

One should note the search giant will have the most beneficial position as it runs ads next to search results as well as offers better results compare to Yahoo! and Microsoft.
