Apple has released Safari 5.0.1 along with a Safari Extensions Gallery that will also offer downloadable features for the browser. The company had already launched extensions support in June to developers to build the tool bars and Web filters

The extension categories offer News, Shopping, Search Tools, Social Networking, Entertainment, Productivity, RSS Tools and Translation. The Extensions comes as the browser equivalent of mobile apps, and offers third-party functionality made to another facet of the Apple ecosystem. The Safari Extensions Gallery can be availed from within Safari; the company has claimed that the extensions can be integrated into Safari without restarting the browser.

Many of the Web’s major brands are on board already as extensions. Safari in addition to Extensions now offers Safari Reader, for multiage Web articles in a single scrollable format, full-screen playback and closed-captioning for HTML5 video. Traditionally, Safari has been behind its competitors and holds 4.85 percent of the traditional browser market.
