The largest Internet retailer known as Amazon.com Inc. continued to sell books of Macmillan on its Web site.
The printed version of such titles as Sarah’s Key,” by Tatiana de Rosnay, and “Plum Spooky,” by Janet Evanovich can be found on Amazon.com’s Web site, but their digital editions were not available.
The restitution of Macmillan books that were available only by means of third-party sellers since Jan. 29 is regarded as a step forward in terms of the dispute concerning the control of digital books’ retail price. Moreover, Hachette Book Group and News Corp.’s HarperCollins said that they are going to revise terms with Seattle-based Amazon.com.
According to the agreement, Macmillan will charge the price of e-books that will have new titles and will be available between $12.99 to $14.99. As for Amazon.com, the company offers $9.99 for most bestsellers. Macmillan will receive a 70 percent cut of sales. Amazon.com set the price to the Authors Guild which is considered to be a group that advocates for writers.
Due to the iPad, publishers got one more way to sell e-books. Publishers are concerned about the prices set for best- sellers by Amazon.com, i.e. the company can get enough market control and as a result it may demand lower wholesale prices.
